Deputies from the sheriff's office executed a search warrant on Mechanicsville resident Kevin Jason Copsey on Tuesday, leading to the seizure of "significant quantities" of fentanyl and cocaine, officials say.
Copsey was stopped for an equipment violation on April 2 in Charlotte Hall, where a police K9 was alerted to controlled substances inside his vehicle.
During the subsequent search, deputies recovered a plastic bag containing 197 fentanyl capsules and 25 vials of cocaine. Copsey also had a capsule of fentanyl on his person.
The 39-year-old Copsey was arrested and taken to the St. Mary's County Detention and Rehabilitation Center, where he was charged with:
- CDS: possession with intent to distribute cocaine;
- CDS: possession with intent to distribute fentanyl;
- CDS: possession with intent to distribute fentanyl/heroin mixture;
- CDS: possession of a large amount and other related offenses.
Additional charges are pending a review by the St. Mary's County State's Attorney's Office.
